AutoTester
ONE
Overview
AutoTester
ONE is a powerful
automated testing tool that enables the user to create, document, and
execute automated tests against a broad range of applications without having
to learn a complicated scripting language. Now in version 4.x, AutoTester
ONE is a mature product built on AutoTester for Windows technology,
which has been the industry hallmark since 1991.
AutoTester
ONE is the result of
a sophisticated architectural design that enables testing of a broad range
of applications, including GUI/Desktop, Client Server, ERP, Host/Legacy and
Web applications. With support for the automated testing of all Windows
operating systems up through Windows 2000 and XP, AutoTester ONE can
test virtually any application that can be accessed from the Windows
workstation.
AutoTester
ONE provides a
sophisticated recording approach that captures and documents testing steps
while you perform them. Instead of limiting you to recording keystrokes and
mouse movements as low-level events, AutoTester records your actions as
high-level commands, complete with helpful text descriptions of each step.
When
AutoTester ONE plays back a functional test, it interacts with the
interface the way a user would. This provides true end-to-end testing. In
addition, because AutoTester ONE is not limited by the type of
application being tested, entire business processes can be tested using the
same tool and even the same script. So, if a business process requires the
user to access a Host/Legacy application, extract data from that application
and import it into an Excel spreadsheet, then manipulate that data in Excel
and feed the result into a Web application, AutoTester ONE is the
only tool you need to perform the entire business process.
AutoTester
ONE functional,
regression or integration test playback is performed from the workstation,
the same place that a user would interact with the application(s). This
method of testing will capture errors that might be otherwise missed if the
tool resided on a server or communicated with the application(s) in a manner
that was different than the user.
AutoTester
ONE also includes
Test Organizer, a complete test management module with a built-in
Central Repository for script storage and sharing. This functionality is
normally available from competitive sources only as a separate product.
With a full range of user-defined security controls, Test Organizer
offers a full range of test management and control capabilities to ensure
the integrity of the test scripts and the entire testing process. In
addition, Test Organizer enables the matching of test scripts, including
manual tests, to the related business requirements and provides the
capabilities to create test suites and master suites to ensure entire
business processes are validated. Also, the Test Scheduler module
enables user-defined scheduling of tests for unattended testing.
Because
AutoTester ONE uses an English-based proprietary scripting language, no
programming experience or knowledge is needed to create, execute or modify
test scripts. This user-friendly approach to automated testing allows for
greater test coverage by enabling the business user to participate in the
testing process. This benefit has been further enhanced in August 2004 with
a newer User Interface. The new UI is icon-based and enables the user to
select a more simple approach to test script development without losing any
of the sophistication associated with AutoTester’s powerful, mature and
field-proven command language.
AutoTester One GUI
For the
business and technical user alike, AutoTester ONE provides
state-of-the-art technology, comprehensive features and functions and
unparalleled technical support with AutoTester's unique Customer Success
Program.
AutoTester ONE combines into ONE tool all the capabilities
of products buy, learn and maintain as separate products
from our competitors:
-
GUI testing
-
Client Server testing
-
Web testing product
-
Host/Legacy testing
-
Test Management
-
Test Scheduling
The good news
is that even though AutoTester ONE includes all of the above
capabilities, it is comparably priced to our competitors most basic test
script development tools. In a feature-to-feature comparison, AutoTester
ONE is clearly the best value in automated testing.
Test Creation and Maintainability
As you perform a test on an application, AutoTester automatically generates
a structured, well-documented test. Instead of recording pixel co-ordinates,
AutoTester captures your tests as a series of object- and data-aware events.
The result is a highly flexible, reusable and maintainable test library.
When application icons, objects or controls change size or position, your
tests adjust to those changes during test playback, significantly reducing
your maintenance effort. AutoTester tests are not compiled programs and can
be edited while in your application and then executed immediately from any
point in the test. Tests can also be edited off-line with AutoTester or any
text editor.
AutoTester maximises your productivity by allowing you to share variable
test data with other testers in your organisation. By storing a shared
variable file on your network, multiple PC's running AutoTester tests may
access and manipulate the same data at the same time. You can even specify
private and public values in the variable file so critical data can be
manipulated without interference by other PC's.
Unattended Test
Execution
With AutoTester, your organisation realises the benefit of true
unattended GUI testing. AutoTester tests are intelligent scripts
complete with logic that duplicates your own expectations and decision
points. During test playback, AutoTester provides on-the-fly
verification of application object contents and state, displayed text
values regardless of font and complex bitmap images.
When unexpected application or system responses occur during execution,
your tests identify those responses and adjust accordingly to continue
testing. Advanced recovery options log the results of application
failures and System Errors and then continue the testing process.
AutoTester even restarts your operating system or machine if necessary.
In addition, AutoTester's playback synchronisation provides proper test
playback regardless of system performance.
Full Scripting Capabilities
The AutoTester Scripting Language is a powerful command set which is
used to supplement your captured tests or to develop tests before your
application code is completed. The command set is presented by simple
menus that step users through development with on-line help and familiar
controls. Developers can use the scripting capabilities to incorporate
conditional branching, looping and external test case data into their
tests.
Web based
applications
AutoTester ONE has a powerful set of commands that allow you to perform
automated functional testing of virtually any Web-based application that
utilizes Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x and greater. You can even test
standard windows applications, or SAP implementations, along with Web
applications, within the same test.
Using AutoTesters Web functionality, you can:
-
Open or close instances of
Internet Explorer
-
Automatically capture actions
against objects on a Web page while you are interacting with it
-
Navigate to different Web pages
-
Verify the test is on the
correct Web page
-
Type text into fields
-
Click on or select objects in
the Web page, such as links, text, buttons, fields, list box options,
radio buttons, check boxes, fields and pictures
-
Verify the existence or
validate the contents/state of objects, such as field contents, button
states, images, etc.
-
Retrieve the title of a Web
page for later use
-
Retrieve the bitmaps, names or values of objects for later use
Host-Based Testing
On
Windows platforms, AutoTester allows you to test not only
your GUI-based applications but your character-based host
applications as well. Through its ability to work with
16-Bit 3270 and 5250 terminal emulators, AutoTester enables
you to test distributed non-GUI applications running on
remote platforms.
AutoTester provides you with:
-
Multiple platform testing capabilities for Windows 3.X,
Windows 95, Windows NT, 2000, XP and OS/2 applications
-
Immediate testing productivity
-
Easily maintainable, object-aware tests
-
Well-documented tests which preserve testing knowledge
-
Complete test results analysis with meaningful reports
-
Full scripting capabilities for advanced testing needs
Automated Documentation and Reporting
AutoTester documents every step of every test you perform, automatically
in English. Tests are easily identified by test case numbers and test
requirement identifiers and include detailed descriptions for reference
purposes. After test execution, detailed results are available on-line
or in report format for immediate review and analysis.
View summary and detail results of each
test run on-line, in a customisable format, with the Results Viewer.
Review complete test results with the
Test Log that details each test step performed and whether it passed or
failed.
Track application errors with the Error
Log that documents the details of each failed test.
Monitor system performance of
host-based applications through response times with the Host Log.
